Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and it’s largest city with just under 500,000 people. The city borders both Austria and Hungary, making it the only national capital that borders 2 independent countries. Our city tour took us up to the castle for a view of the city from above, unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best for pictures. Here are a couple from the castle.
On the top of the tower of St Martin’s Cathedral is a gold plated replica of the Crown of Saint Stephen. The pillow and crown contain 18 pounds of gold.
A few of the old town in Bratislava
Every year Bratislava hosts a street art festival. The result is some of the nicest graffiti I’ve ever seen…
In the afternoon we had a trip to Scloss Hof, a castle in Austria. The castle, once an elaborate hunting lodge, is now a working farm with stables, gardens and a greenhouse. I can only imagine how beautiful the gardens must be in the summer, we got to see them covered in snow…
These stables are still used to board horses…
We arrived back at the ship with only a short time to get ready for our gala dinner, but of course I had to grab my tripod and go back out to get a few pictures of Bratislava at night…
