Monday morning, departure day. Time to say goodbye to all the great people I’ve been living with the last 2 weeks, it really was an awesome group.
We arrived in Budapest early, around 10:30 I think? Said my farewell’s and headed off to the Marriott, like a little homeless girl dragging all her possessions down the street. Luckily my room was ready, I had big plans, a nap! When I woke up it was snowing, I hope all my new Aussie & Kiwi friends are happy now. Feeling pretty much toured out, I just went for a walk to the Shoes on The Danube memorial to get some pictures.
Shoes on the Danube is a memorial to the Jews that were ordered to take off their shoes and shot so that their bodies would fall into the Danube and float away in WWII. It consists of 60 pairs of period appropriate shoes created out of iron and fixed permanently to the bank. It’s one of those things that really makes you pause, and the fresh snow gave it an even more of a somber effect.
Back to the hotel to relax some more, and before I knew it I could see the Buda Castle lit up. I grabbed my camera & tripod and headed out to get a picture or 2.
That’s it, a quiet day.
