I’ll admit, I’m starting to lose track of what day I’m on.
Up early again, this time to get pictures of the Chain Bridge just before dawn.
I had to catch the 11:40 train, so enough time for a nap, breakfast and packing. I grabbed a cab from the hotel to the train station. I’d purchased my ticket before I left home, so I just had to find a machine to print the actual ticket. That done, I found my train, boarded, found my seat and got settled. I was glad I’d gotten there early, it gets a little chaotic closer to departure. At exactly 11:40 the train rolled out of the station, en route to Vienna.
I won’t bore you with pictures of the train, but they’re actually pretty new. One thing I have noticed, all the trains I’ve seen so far in Europe are electric. We arrived in Vienna (Wien) pretty much on time, I had the choice of 2 Wien stations when I booked, I’m pretty sure I chose the wrong one. I thought I had the main station and I’d just be able to grab a taxi. Wrong. Not one to be found. Luckily I’d installed the Uber app on my phone, 7 minutes later my driver arrived. Not bad at all.
I arrived at my hotel (you all saw the pictures) and so far, very happy. The young lad at the front desk was very helpful, he even called up to the room to make sure everything was good. I needed something printed, so I emailed it to the address he’d given me and a few minutes later there was a knock at my door. Wow, excellent service.
The hotel is in a historic building, and when they renovated they were told the old elevator (the doorman tells me it’s 100 years old) had to stay. The actual elevator is new, but the old cage remains.
Vienna is lit up beautifully at night, here are a few of my hotel and the buildings and street around it.
I asked at reception for a good place for wiener schnitzel, after all, it is Vienna right? This was were I ended up, one of the ones he recommended. No way I could eat it all…
That’s it for today, time to figure out what my plan is for tomorrow…
